Rotherham MP backs concerns over puppy smuggling

SARAH Champion backed the Dogs Trust’s efforts to highlight the UK’s growing puppy smuggling problem.

The Rotherham MP (pictured) said: “Not only is this issue affecting unwitting people buying puppies without knowing where they have come from, but there is a risk of disease to both humans and dogs.”

The trust smuggled toy puppies through Britain’s ports to Parliament to highlight ineffective patrols. Chief executive Adrian Burder said: “Our famous slogan, a dog is for life, not just for Christmas, is 37 years old but is still, sadly, as relevant as ever.”
