Rotherham fund-raisers hand cancer charity a £30,000 boost

HOLLYOAKS actor Jay Khan was among the stars who turned out at a Rotherham pub for a charity presentation.

Rotherham fund-raisers handed Sheffield's Weston Park Cancer Hospital Charity a £30,000 boost in memory of father and son John and Alf Loames, who died from cancer within weeks of each other.

Representatives from the charity were handed the proceeds from a string of events on behalf of the John and Alf Loames Memorial Fund at the latest presentation at the Fairways Pub in Brinsworth.

John and Alf were father and son who died within weeks of each other 13 years ago and fund-raising events have been held in their memory every year since, including football matches, discos, raffles and concerts.

Other guests on the night included Sheffield Wednesday star Rob Jones and Rotherham's star referee Howard Webb.
