Rotherham council turns to e-working to improve efficiency

ROTHERHAM’S planning department has turned a new leaf and gone paperless in an effort to drive efficiency.

The borough council department has less desk and floor space since the move to Riverside House and the back office is completely electronic.

Now half of all planning applications are received online and staff are working with Planning Portal to encourage more.

Development manager Nigel Hancock said it had helped after the office move and officers had responded well to electronic working.

He added: “We are soon hoping to trial using tablets on site to view plans.”
