Rotherham Council aiming for standstill on council tax

PLANS to freeze council tax for the second year running will be unveiled by Rotherham Borough Council tomorrow.

Band D properties will again pay council tax of £1,230 if the plans are approved by the council next week.

The move will allows councillors to qualify for the Council Tax Freeze grant, equivalent to a 2.5 per cent tax rise.

The authority cut £30.3 million last year and needs to save a further £20.4 million  in 2012/13.

Andrew Bedford, strategic director of resources, said: “By adopting a calm and measured approach and planning ahead it is possible for the council to protect services for those most in need.”
