Raiders target Swinton charity shop

The raiders struck the Barnsley Animal Rescue Charity (BARC) shop on Station Street, Swinton, on Tuesday night.
Volunteers discovered the break-in, which they said did “thousands of pounds of damage” to doors and windows.

Charity secretary Kath Bailey said: “Obviously we’re very upset by this — it’s charity money involved and we need that for the animals.
“It’s just terrible. What’s wrong with these people? I just don’t know how they can sleep at night.”
She added: “We have fantastic volunteers. Everyone’s running around trying to make everything secure again.

“Hopefully the doors will be covered by insurance, but a new till will cost £100 and I don’t yet know how much stock has been damaged or stolen.”
