Blackburn Meadows produces both electricity which goes into the national grid and heat, which is used for a district heating scheme in the Lower Don Valley.

She was given a tour of the site and the full generating process, which involves a boiler and furnace, which power turbines.

She was also given details of the company’s investment plans, which could see more heat generated from materials which would otherwise go to waste.Jess Dhariwal, plant manager at Blackburn Meadows, said they had been part of the skyline at Tinsley for a decade and added: “It was wonderful to tell The Princess Royal about the developments we have in place here.”
