Nurse’s trek brings in the pounds for breast cancer charity

A MENTAL health nurse who described her breast cancer diagnosis as “a bolt from the blue” joined TV celebrities and Strictly stars for a five-day fundraising trek in Wales.

Sally Blackett, of Wickersley, was one of 100 people chosen by the Coppafeel! breast cancer charity to complete the 100-mile walk along the Pembrokeshire coast, after being diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2021 and responding well to treatment.

Sally, who works for Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH), said: “It was a massive shock when I was told I had breast cancer, so when my treatment was completed I started looking at what I could do to help raise awareness of the signs and symptoms look out for and Coppafeel! are excellent at doing just that.”

Celebrities taking part in the trek included CBeebies presenter and I’m a Celebrity... winner Giovanna Fletcher, Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Amy Dowden, and comedian Kiri Pritchard-McLean.

Thanks to the support of friends, colleagues and well-wishers Sally has now raised more than £4,200 in sponsorship for Coppafeel!, which encourages everyone to stand the best chance of surviving breast cancer “by getting to know your boobs and pecs”.

She added: “People have been fantastic in supporting my fundraising activities which have included raffles, book stall and a quiz night that alone generated £1,300.

“It’s all going to a brilliant cause.”
