Nick’s charity Christmas card is fit for a king

AN artist and “devoted” volunteer for a music and dementia charity has helped create a collection of fundraising festive cards.

Nick Summerbell (88), who is himself experiencing memory loss, has given permission for Lost Chord UK to use a selection of his Chinese brush paintings to create the Christmas cards.

And the charity’s chief executive Clare Langan is even planning to send one to King Charles, signed by its team of volunteers.

“Nick is a well-known local artist and has volunteered for Lost Chord UK for over a decade," said Clare.

“He is now experiencing memory loss but is still finding ways to support the charity that he loves so very much and that he has devoted so many hours to over the years.

“We wanted to have a Christmas card that was unique to our charity and what could be better than using the art work of one of our wonderful volunteers.”

Clare said Nick, of Dinnington, had chosen four paintings from his extensive collection.

“I was grateful to him that he allowed me to share his story,” said Claire, “as we both believe it shows that a memory loss diagnosis doesn’t stop you from volunteering or from making a real impact in people’s lives.”

All profits from the sale of the cards will go to fund interactive music sessions at care homes and day centres across the region.
