MEXBOROUGH: Rotary Club aids dementia charity

A CHARITY that provides interactive musical experiences for dementia sufferers is humming a sweeter tune following a £500 boost from the Rotary Club of Mexborough.

The club chose Lost Chord as its charity of the year after hearing about the organisation's work from president Brian Taylor, whose wife Jo is a volunteer with the group.

Lost Chord Fundraising Manager Tina Harrison visited them at their Barnburgh headquarters to receive the cheque.

"We are delighted that Rotary Club members have supported us so enthusiastically," she said.

"It currently costs us well over £200,000 annually to maintain our programme of musical events throughout South Yorkshire and beyond.

"But the evidence of the power of live music in unlocking memories for people with dementia is striking and undeniable and the sense of achievement experienced by them is overwhelming."

The £500 was raised at a series of events throughout the year, including a special concert.
