Mayor welcomes £50,000 new paving for Mexborough High Street

WORK to repave key parts of Mexborough High Street is due to begin next month.

The £50,000 improvements will form stage one of a £350,000 scheme to regenerate Mexborough’s outdoor market, York Square and town centre.

Work on the second stage of scheme, which includes the introduction of pop-up stalls, is due to start in spring.

A Doncaster Council spokesman said: “The pavement has been badly damaged over the years and is being reinstated in a phased scheme over a number of months, starting from the area closest to York Square.

“As part of the works the pedestrian area will be de-cluttered with some less attractive brickwork features being removed.”

The improvements are being paid for with Government money from the Mary Portas High Street Innovation Fund.

Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones added: “This is an exciting first step in the regeneration of Mexborough town centre.
