Intrepid 82-year-old conquers Yorkshire's Three Peaks, raises £6.5K for Rotherham Hospice

AN INTREPID pensioner showed age is just a number after joining much younger walkers by conquering Yorkshire’s Three Peaks.

Margaret Littledyke (82) took on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough alongside members of Parkgate gym Unit 5 Group Fitness.

The grandmother of four helped the group raise an impressive total of £6,500 for Rotherham Hospice with the 24-mile walk.

A spokesperson for Rotherham Rambling Club, of which Margaret is also a member, said: “She has a great spirit of adventure and in the past has scaled Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon all in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

“How does she manage to do things like this?

“Undoubtedly, indomitable spirit and sheer effort play their part and she says she has received encouragement and support from a number of people but in particular from members of the rambling club.

“She has walked with this club for more than 20 years.

“When asked why she continues to walk, Margaret says she loves both the fitness and social aspects.”
