Hundreds turn out to see Mexborough's Christmas light switch-on
HUNDREDS of people turned out to see Mexborough’s Christmas lights switched on.
Organisers MECi have thanked those who made the evening successful.
Tommy Joyce MBE switched on the Christmas tree lights, alongside his wife Jean, and who also made a ‘’Santa Special’ guest appearance earlier in the evening.
Sean Gibbons, MECi Treasurer said “It was another fantastic night enjoyed the usual crowds to mark the start of the festive season in Mexborough.
"Huge thanks to our Christmas Lights, Christmas Tree & event sponsors - Grupo Bimbo / Barcel Snacks / Takis for their fantastic donation, Mexborough Reform Councillors for support via their collective Ward Budgets and to Leesing Marrison Lee & Co., Brearley & Co Accountants, Newstyme & Discount Food Centre for their financial contributions toward this year’s event”.
Debi Greenough, MECi Chair said: “I am hugely proud to lead such a fab team of volunteers who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes and on the night to make it a huge success. It was fantastic to see so many happy and smiling children’s faces.”
A wide range of volunteers and supporters helped to make the event a success, with a range of attractions including rides from Tubys funfairs.
Volunteers from Mexborough Family Hub put normal duties to one side to help out in Santa’s grotto and a host of others provided their time and support.
It is still weeks away from the big day, but already next year’s Christmas Lights Switch-On Event is being planned to take place on Thu 26th Nov 2026 4-7pm.
