Happy trails! Pride of Lions revealed for Rotherham

FOR the first time, the Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity fundraising animal artwork trail is going beyond Sheffield – here's our exclusive reveal of the Rotherham locations.

The full Pride of Yorkshire collection will see 150 life-sized lion sculptures painted by local and national artists installed across South Yorkshire for the first time this year as the trail goes beyond Sheffield, and into Rotherham, Doncaster, and Barnsley in the coming weeks.

The collection includes sculptures inspired by some of South Yorkshire’s most iconic voices in music including Rotherham's The Reytons by artists Steve White and Self Esteem by Grey Suit Clay.

The artists' designs also celebrate the region’s sport and creative heritage – including Rob Coyle who was commissioned to create designs for the Rotherham United lion and lioness 'Reds on the Rise'.

Meanwhile the Saloon Room floor at Rotherham's stately home Wentworth Woodhouse was the inspiration for Heritage Scenic Studio – owned and operated by Sam Piper and Joe Philpott.

John Armstrong, CEO of Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity: "We’re incredibly proud that Pride of Yorkshire will stretch right across South Yorkshire, with 20 sculptures calling Rotherham home.

“There is so much to celebrate in the borough, and we wanted the sculptures to reflect that by appearing in places that people know, love and feel proud of.

“We wanted the trail to feel truly accessible and give families a reason to get out, explore somewhere new and rediscover places they may not have visited for a while. We hope people across Rotherham will embrace it, have fun together and feel proud to be part of something that’s helping Sheffield Children’s Hospital continue to provide extraordinary care for children across South Yorkshire.”
