Food for thought in book’s humorous take on Yorkshire

A FOODBANK could be in line for a much needed windfall thanks to the publishers of a light-hearted look at God’s Own Country.

Food distribution hub Food Aware will net £1 from each sale of humorous book Forgotten Yorkshire to support Mexborough Foodbank.

It is part of an initiative by publishing firm Tripe Marketing Board, which has pledged to support a network of foodbanks in South Yorkshire.

The parody book by Dr Eric K Shipley is available on Amazon for 99p (its usual RRP is £10) but publishers are receiving full royalties for each copy sold and £2 for each copy will be shared between Food Aware and The Welcome Centre/Foodbank in Huddersfield.

You can get a copy of Forgotten Yorkshire for a song at amazon.co.uk/dp/0993407552/.

Foodbank manager Sean Gibbons said the foodbank was coming under increasing demand but had been helped by donations from the likes of Dearne Valley Fit Mums and Slimming World Mexborough.

A Fitmums spokeperson said supporting the foodbank was a tradition started by member Kerry Coplestone in 2020, adding: “This is our third year collecting and a lovely way to give back to the community in which we run.”
