Emergency meeting to discuss children’s centers

AN EMERGENCY meeting of workers at children centres to fight the “decimation” of early years services is being held tomorrow.

AN EMERGENCY meeting of workers at children centres to fight the “decimation” of early years services is being held today.

The move is in response to Rotherham Borough Council’s plans to close 13 children’s centres to save £2.2 million.

Robin Symonds, of UNISON, said: “The council calls it a re-configuration of the service...but to us it looks like decimation.”

All UNISON members are invited to a meeting to discuss the council’s proposals and the union’s response next Tuesday February 4, starting at 6.30 pm at the John Smith Room in Rotherham Town Hall.

The massive shake-up of children’s services is part of a 45-day public consultation exercise.
