Council housing policy is wrong

MY stepson and his fiancee and nine-year-old granddaughter were in a private flat and were given two weeks’ notice to leave about three years ago.

The council housing department gave them a private landlord’s details (who rented his properties via council recommendation), who rented them a small private terraced house until they could get a council house.

They have been on the waiting list ten years and have now been told because of a change in policy as they are in private accommodation they are not in need and will have to come off the list.

To be in need you have to be homeless, and have lived, worked or have a family member that has lived in Rotherham for the last three years.

The way I see it then is if an immigrant family has relatives in Rotherham that have lived here for three years, they can come to Rotherham and get a house before someone who has lived in Rotherham all his life (33 years) and has been on the housing waiting list ten years.

Apparently local councils can now make their own rules like this because of a change in government policy.

Rotherham Labour council dictatorship has now gone too far.

The sooner this mob is ousted the better that Rotherham will be.
