Charity’s “recycle presents” plea

A CHARITY is asking people to recycle unwanted Christmas gifts and help vulnerable children at the same time.

Barnardo’s is appealing for unwanted gifts from the festive season to be donated to their chain of shops across South Yorkshire, so they can be sold to raise vital funds.

The money will be used to help disadvantaged children and young people, including those who are living in poverty, who are disabled or who have been sexually exploited.

With an estimated 30 per cent of the gifts given at Christmas being unwanted, Barnardo’s guarantees they can find a customer for those unwanted gifts.

Lindsey Harris, business manager for Barnardo’s Yorkshire, said: “We’ve all received a gift at Christmas that's not suitable or we quite simply don't want. “By donating any unwanted Christmas presents to our shops you will not only be ‘recycling’ but also helping Yorkshire’s most disadvantaged children.

“Every year, we work with over 13,000 children, young people and their families in over 80 services throughout Yorkshire.

“Every penny raised plays a vital part in ensuring we continue to support children, young people and their families.”

Barnardo’s has 330 shops nationwide, 35 in the Yorkshire region.

Shoppers can buy collectables, household goods, books, toys, children's clothes, books, accessories as well as men's and ladies’ fashions.
