Charity payback for brave Jo

A FUND-raising walker with learning difficulties completed a 26-mile walk to boost the charity he attends every week.

Jo Atkinson trekked around Thrybergh Country Park in aid of Speakup, which has supported him for several years.

The 25-year-old, of Swinton, said: “I was a bit tired after the walk and my feet hurt, but it was a great thing to do.

“It’s enough to be doing it once a year, but I will be back next year to do it all again.”

Charity principal officer Geoff Doncaster said: “Jo began walking to keep fit and lose some weight. “He really enjoys walking and thought he would put his new found talent to good use by doing sponsored walks for charity.

“Jo felt that Speakup had given him a lot of support over the years and now wanted to give something back.”

Also supporting Jo’s money-raiser was actor and Speakup supporter Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe in Emmerdale.

You can still sponsor Jo by texting GOJO14 followed by either £1, £2, £3, £4, £5, or £10 to 70070.
