Charity day raises over £1,500 in memory of Lynn Gibbons

A BUSY charity day topped off with a headshave watched by a crowd of dozens raised more than £1,500 in memory of a much-loved mum.

Friends and family gathered at The Slip — Maltby Progressive Club — for the event in tribute to Lynn Gibbons, who died at Rotherham Hospice from cancer last November.

There was a barbecue, bouncy castle, children’s football games, stocks with water and sponges, a disco, stalls and games.

But the focal point at the moment when Lynn’s friend Karen Yeomans braved the shave and had her locks shaved off, with salon owner Natasha Gerrard doing the honours.

Another friend, Jayne Hopkinson, said: “It was very emotional for Lynn's family and friends and Karen wanted to contribute to the event in whatever way she could.

“Lynn, Karen, Karen’s sister Paula and niece Emily, who organised the event, were all close friends.

“It was a very busy event bringing out families and children to raise money for the hospice.

“The total amount raised is thought to be around £1,500.

“We would like to thank the local community for coming out to support such a worthy event.”

Emily Chapman, who organised the event, said: “It was really good. I think it shows how popular Lynn was but also how people wanted to support the family.”
