Award is music to students’ ears

TALENTED students working their way towards mastering a musical instrument have been recognised with an award.

The William Appleby Music Awards take place annually at the Mansion House in Doncaster and see accolades presented to talented young people for a wide range of musical disciplines.

Proud pupils from Montagu Primary Academy in Mexborough were presented with the ukulele group award, which recognised their commitment to the Ukulele First Access programme at the academy.

This sees every child in Year 5 and 6 receiving an hour tuition every week, regardless of their ability, which is said to have had a positive impact on the school community.

Young musicians from the academy performed three songs for the audience.

The award was presented to the academy by Cllr Lani-Mae Ball, Doncaster Council’s portfolio holder for education, skills and young people.
