Abandoned dog left to die in car park: RSPCA appeals for information

AN “AFFECTIONATE” dog was abandoned in a car park to fend for her survival, according to the charity seeking help to track her owners.

The RSPCA said a member of the public had found the three-year-old female Shar Pei tied to a tree with a red lead at a Hull Trans Pennine Trail Car Park near the Gardeners Country Inn on March 27.

A microchip scan revealed limited details including her name, Flower, and that she was sold online to someone in the Rotherham or Scunthorpe area about 18 months ago, the RSPCA confirmed.

Flower had sustained a severe flea infestation when she was saved, which has been treated since with veterinary treatment, but enquiries have now been launched to understand why she was cast away and to find her owners.

Hannah Williams, animal rescue officer at the RSPCA, said: “Flower is a friendly and sweet-natured dog but, not surprisingly, she was bewildered and anxious at first by what had happened to her.

“We think it’s highly likely she was abandoned, rather than having gotten lost and been tied up by someone.

“Given the rural location, the person responsible will probably have driven to the location, so maybe someone saw her being taken out of a car and can give us details about a possible vehicle.

“We understand the financial difficulties some people are experiencing right now, however abandoning your pet is not acceptable.

“There is help and support available and we would urge people to contact their vets, local rescues and animal welfare charities.

“Anyone who has information that could help our investigation is strongly urged to contact us.”
