Old folk wait to hear fate of closure-threatened home

ELDERLY residents, including a 100-year-old woman, are still anxiously awaiting news of their future after their care home was granted a last-minute reprieve.

The 21 old people, who live at Melton Court, Maltby, had faced having to move out by tomorrow after its operating licence was withdrawn by the Care Quality Commission.

That move came after the commission learned that the man named on official paperwork had been jailed for eight years in 2010 go for attacking another man in Bradford.

But the closure has now been put on hold after a new provider expressed interest in running the home.

Melton Court’s deputy manager Sue Masson said: “A new provider is in place but can’t be named for legal reasons until everything is finalised.”

A spokeswoman for Rotherham Borough Council said: “We appreciate this is an extremely difficult time for a group of elderly people who have lived at one particular residential home for a long period and our priority throughout this process will be their well-being.”
