OAP seriously hurt in smash

WITNESSES to an incident which left an 81-year-old woman with a broken jaw and internal injuries are being sought by police.

Investigators want to hear from anyone who saw a collision in which a silver Peugeot 106 and black Ford Fiesta collided on the A57 at around 2.40pm on Wednesday.

A police spokeswoman said that the Peugeot was travelling up the A57 towards junction 31 of the M1 motorway when the Fiesta, travelling in the opposite direction, turned right to enter Mansfield Road.

She added: “The Fiesta, driven by the 81-year-old woman, turned into the path of the Peugeot and the cars collided.”

The 81-year-old woman, from Rotherham, sustained a broken jaw, internal injuries and a suspected broken pelvis and is now being treated in Northern General Hospital.

The driver of the Peugeot, a 21-year-old man from Sheffield, suffered slight injuries and was transferred to Rotherham Hospital but later discharged.

Anyone with information about the collision should contact South Yorkshire Police by dialling 101, quoting incident number 584 of February 22.
