No charges in attempted murder probe

TWO men arrested in connection with a stabbing in Mexborough have been released without charge.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident at a property on Spencer Street last November in which a 49-year-old man was stabbed in his chest.

Officers believe the man was injured during a dispute between a group of men.

The victim was taken to hospital in a serious condition, but was discharged four days later.

Two males, a 16 and 23-year-old, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but have both since been released without charge.

Anyone with information is urged to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 175 of November 23. Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The incident happened just days after a stabbing which resulted in the death of 40-year-old James King of Denaby at the flats where he lived.

His body was discovered at Tadcaster Close on Saturday, November 17. A post-mortem confirmed that he died of a stab wound.

Damien Shaun Michael Noble (31), of no fixed address, will stand trial for murder at Sheffield Crown Court on May 13.

He appeared last Friday (1) for a plea and case management hearing and was remanded in custody.

Five people in total were arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the investigation.

Two men currently remain on police bail until April.
