A NEW tenants' and residents' association is set to launch on the estate of Woodlaithes Village with an inaugural meeting at Sunnyside Community Centre.

The group was founded by like-minded people from the Woodlaithes Village estate who had grown frustrated at issues such as anti-social behaviour and the general care and maintenance of the village.

The group hopes to be a member of Rotherfed and there are plans to meet with local council officials and the police to discuss crime and the adoption of the estate by the council.

“There has been some talk that this is about Woodlaithes wanting to distance itself from the other communities around it or about getting rid of the young people who live and play on the estate,” a spokesman said.

“That's nonsense — we all live together, we all use the same amenities and we just wanted to set up some kind of structure for making sure we could look after our community and facilities.”

The inaugural meeting of the group will be at Sunnyside Community Centre on Friday at 7.15pm and is open to all Woodlaithes residents.
