New role for TV's Young Apprentice winner Ashleigh

ROTHERHAM’S Young Apprentice winner Ashleigh Porter-Exley has landed a new job with the help of Sheffield firm Benchmark Recruit.

The teenager has joined Rotherham steel firm C Roberts Steel Services as a sales executive.

"Sales has always been one of my strong points and the company is vibrant and busy which matches my personality," said the 18-year-old from Wath, who impressed notoriously tough judge Lord Sugar with her 'sheer and utter graft.'

Ashleigh had her first job at just 13 when she worked at a deli in her local indoor market.

"I found that, if you had a job, it was pretty easy to get a new job," she explains. "Some people are academically gifted but I'm grafting gifted."

As a display of her determination, as soon as she turned 16, she printed a hundred CVs and approached companies in Meadowhall directly, landing her first job at Barratts' Shoes.

"Of course, being on the Young Apprentice has been a strong thing to have on my CV," she admits.

"The show has made me more patient, though. I'm a get-up-and-go sort of girl but, since the show, I've had to really weigh up decisions and take time and not just jump at the first thing."

Benchmark director Amy Tingle commented: "We were delighted that, following her victory, Ashleigh turned to us to help make the correct choice of career path.”
