New home for credit union

AN organisation aimed at helping cash-strapped Rotherham residents officially opened its new town centre premises this week.

The Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Shaun Wright, cut the ribbon at the new base of LASER Credit Union at the Old Town Hall in Effingham Street.

Visitors were be able to hear about the work of the credit union, which moved earlier this year from its previous premises in the Guardian Centre.

LASER was launched eight years ago and over the years has seen a continued increase in the number of people using its services for both loans, savings and advice on financial management.

The new premises will allow the non-profit organisation to recruit more staff, providing a local alternative for vulnerable Rotherham people to the big banks and doorstep lenders.

LASER is open from 9.30am until 1pm, Monday to Friday and can be contacted on 01709 836500 or in person at their new office in The Old Town Hall.

The union is also on the lookout for people with business and financial expertise, and asked anyone who could help to call on 01709 836500.
