Nepal earthquake victims helped by Rotherham

A BID to send much-needed essentials to struggling people in Nepal following the two earthquakes in the country has been supported by people in Rotherham.

Organisers have said a big thank you to people who have donated dried food and medical supplies – as well as cash – to the cause.

Jennie Swift and her partner John Slater have been working with the Sheffield Nepalese Society and have set up a collection point at Sheffield University and their home in the city.

The donated supplies are being driven down to London on Sunday (May 24) where they will be deposited at a collection point set up by Tibetan organisation Pasa Puchah Guthi who are working with charity Dream Team and the Nepalese British Army.

The donations will be distributed to the needy in Nepal.

Jennie said: “The response has been amazing and from donators in Rotherham, Sheffield and Chesterfield.

“We have managed to collect a van full of supplies which includes dried food, cans of beans, soup, cereal, toiletries, bandages, paracetamol, supplement drinks and vitamins.

“We have also managed to buy an infra-red non-contact thermometer and a first response medical kit with money that has been donated.

“We have been overwhelmed by South Yorkshire’s generosity to this disaster which could have affected any one of us. It has not been caused by war, or man, it was a natural disaster that has touched the hearts of many people across our region.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to the relief effort.”
