Naming prize for Mexborough woman

A woman with a flair for words has won a prize for naming one of the borough's two latest health centres.

NHS Doncaster organised two competitions asking people to come up with creative names for the multi-million-pound centres which are currently under construction at Conisbrough and Doncaster town centre.

And Leanne Thomas, from Mexborough, earned £50 in vouchers after a panel of local judges thought her suggestion, The Stone Castle Centre, was the best name for the new centre under way at Gardens Lane, Conisbrough.

Leanne (31), a receptionist with the Conisbrough Group Practice currently based in nearby temporary buildings, will move into the building she has named when it opens in autumn next year.

She said: “Conisbrough has a stone church and castle and this building will have stone on part of the exterior so I thought it would be a fitting name.”

Pamela Crich (54), from Balby, drew on Doncaster's historical links with the railways as her inspiration for The Flying Scotsman Centre, which is being built at St Sepulchre Gate in Doncaster town centre.

NHS Doncaster chairman, Roger Greenwood, who presented the prizes, said: “Hundreds of people took part in the two competitions, which have become a traditional way of involving local communities in naming new health centres.”
