Murder victim's mum thanks fundraisers

THE mother of murdered Julie Gallagher has thanked family and friends for helping to raise £1,450 in her daughter’s memory for research into a rare blood disease which she had from birth.

The 41-year-old from Eastwood, who was killed by a single stab wound in March, was diagnosed with Glanzmann's thrombasthenia as a baby.

Around 20 people completed a five-mile walk around Rotherham from All Saints’ Square through Moorgate, Brecks, Herringthorpe and Clifton before finishing at the Hare and Hounds on Wellgate.

A bring and buy party and a raffle were also held to raise cash for the fund.

Julie’s mum Barbara said: “I would like to thank family and friends for their kind donations for Glanzmann's thrombasthenia for which £1,450 was raised.

“I would like to say thank you to Bev and Carol for organising a sponsored walk and all who took part and June, Dave and Carol from the Hare and Hounds for the refreshments and raffle.

“And a sincere thanks to Wendy for donations from the bring and buy party she kindly organised.”

Julie’s funeral was family flowers only, with donations in lieu also going to research into the blood disorder.

Glanzmann's thrombasthenia is a protein deficiency in the circulation, which can cause internal bleeding and even be life-threatening.

George William Gallagher, of Eldon Road, Eastwood, is awaiting trial for Julie’s murder.
