Muhammad Secka: Teenage boy who died at Rother Valley Country Park named as fundraisers are launched

He was “loved by many people”

A boy whose body was recovered from a lake in a popular country park has been named.

Muhammad Secka, aged 16, disappeared at Rother Valley Country Park on Monday and his body was recovered from the lake the following day.

The teen had been seen entering the water but when he did not re-emerge the alarm was raised, triggering a major search and rescue operation.

Two fundraisers have been launched by friends of the teen, naming the youngster.

Kelly Osayi has launched a £1,000 appeal for Muhammad's funeral and memorial.

She said he was "loved by many people" and his death at just 16 "still doesn't feel real for most of us."

A second fundraiser launched by another friend describes Muhammad as a "much-loved son, friend, student, and member of the community who brought light, laughter, and kindness to those around him."

That appeal is raising funds to "ease some of the financial burden" facing Muhammad's mum and two younger siblings.

The appeal reads: “With heavy hearts, we are raising funds in loving memory of Muhammed Secka, who at 16 years of age has tragically and suddenly lost his life over the May Bank Holiday.

“Muhammed was a much-loved son, friend, student, and member of the community who brought light, laughter, and kindness to those around him.

“His loss has deeply affected everyone who knew him, and the pain felt by his family and loved ones is unimaginable.

“During this incredibly difficult time, we want to come together to support his family and help ease some of the financial burden they are facing.

“Any donation, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated. All funds raised will be withdrawn and given directly to his mother. “

Police have not yet formally identified the victim.

Emergency services rushed to Rother Valley Country Park on Monday May 25 after reports that a teenage boy had headed into the water but was not seen again.

A huge operation involving police, firefighters, paramedics and a police helicopter took place throughout the evening.

Tragically, a body was found in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
