MP backs launch of new paper for the Dearne

THE launch of the Dearne Advertiser has been welcomed by MP John Healey.

He said the Dearne edition of the Advertiser, which hits the streets for the first time tomorrow, would help people hold those in positions of power to account.

Mr Healey, the MP for Wentworth and Dearne, said: “Good local newspapers give people a voice and a greater sense of what’s going on in their area. And good local journalism is vital in holding to account those in positions of power.

“As a Rotherham resident I read the Advertiser every week and I’m proud our town has such a strong local newspaper. So I am very pleased that the new Dearne edition is being launched, and sure we’ll see the same hard-hitting news, community information and sharp  opinions that Advertiser readers have come to expect. “

Editor Andrew Mosley said: “We hope that readers and advertisers in the Dearne Valley will welcome and support the new edition, which will run alongside the Weekender, give us their thoughts, and also keep up-to-date through the week through our website at www.dearneadvertiser.co.uk”

The Dearne edition will contain news, pictures, district news and sport exclusive to the area as well as all the usual content contained within the Rotherham Advertiser. It will be on sale in newsagents and supermarkets across the Dearne Valley.
