More disruption for Rotherham drivers as rain returns

ROADS in Rotherham have been hit by floods causing traffic chaos for the second time in five days.

Roads around St Ann’s Leisure Centre in Rotherham town centre flooded this morning causing traffic to come to a standstill for the second time in five days. The area was also badly hit by Saturday’s downpours.

Cars, buses and lorries struggled to get through the foot-deep stream, and several manhole covers were pushed open.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the rest of the day.

Experts are warning that a band of heavy rain with gusty winds is expected to last until around 9pm today, causing surface water flooding.

The Environment Agency issued ten flood alerts across the UK but said that South Yorkshire was at “low risk” of flooding.
