Minster send-off for Paul

HI-DE-HI! star Paul Shane will be given a grand Minster send-off by friends and co-stars next week.

Best known for his role as holiday camp compere Ted Bovis in the 80s sitcom, Paul died on Thursday at Rotherham Hospice surrounded by his family.

The public funeral will be held next Friday at Rotherham Minster from 1pm. Mourners may bring flowers or make a donation to Rotherham Hospice.

Born in Thrybergh in June, 1940, Paul worked as a coal miner until he was forced to retire after being injured at Silverwood Colliery in 1967. He went on to star in Hi-de-Hi as well as sitcom You Rang M’Lord and Oh, Dr Beeching!

Paul is survived by three daughters and six grandchildren — his wife Dory died in 2001.
