Millers fan banned from London

A ROTHERHAM fan who admitted affray after the Wembley play-off final has been banned from London for a year.

John Sheridan (20) was banned from matches for three years as he was sentenced for his part in a confrontation with rival fans at Kings Cross station.

Sheridan, from Doncaster, was given four-month prison term suspended for two years and 60 hours unpaid work.

He was banned from licensed premises for six months at Blackfriars Crown Court over the May 30 incident.

Sgt Bill Bell led a team of Rotherham officers to the capital for the Millers’ showdown with Dagenham and Redbridge.

South Yorkshire Police continued to work with British Transport Police after the incident. Nine other Rotherham fans—aged between 19 and 31—will stand trial next summer over similar charges.

Sgt Bell said: “We are happy with this result, because it sends the message that we want football fans to come to the games and enjoy themselves. What we don’t want is for anyone to start trouble and cause problems for others.

“The co-operation with BTP has been excellent and very thorough, because this is quite easily something that could quite easily have been swept under the carpet.”
