Mentoring scheme praise for Rotherham students

TWO Rotherham students who took part in a mentoring scheme have been praised for their enthusiasm and commitment.

Alex Barker’s “endless dedication and commitment” and Rebecca Pickersgill’s “unrivalled enthusiasm” were highlighted at the end of Thomas Rotherham College’s link-up with the University of Sheffield.

Thirty students from TRC took part in the US in Schools Mentoring Scheme,  which places University of Sheffield students as mentors in schools and colleges to work with a group of young learners.

The programme is designed to provide direct support for young people from backgrounds currently under-represented in higher education.

TRC students picked up study skills and tips on coursework and exam preparation, as well as learning about college life.

They also visit at the university to have a look at the Students’ Union and accommodation.

The students and their families were invited to a celebration event, where they were awarded with their certificates.
