Mental health professionals will be placed in police stations

MENTAL health professionals will be placed in police stations across South Yorkshire from April.

The trial aims to ensure people with learning difficulties and other vulnerabilities are promptly referred and get the right treatment.

Deputy Chief Constable Andy Holt welcomed NHS England’s announcement that the county would be included in the Liaison and Diverson project.

He said: “It will be a vital tool in ensuring people receive the support they need when they come into contact with police and will ultimately help to reduce re-offending rates and save lives.”

South Yorkshire police commissioner Alan Billings added: “The introduction of the service here is a positive step in the right direction.”
