Man escapes flat fire

FIREFIGHTERS rescued a Rotherham man from a fire in his flat on Saturday night.

Fire crews found the man, in his 40s, inside a ground floor property on Hounsfield Road, East Herringthorpe at 10.50pm.

The man was crouching on the kitchen floor suffering from smoke inhalation. After he was rescued ambulance, staff carried out initial medical treatment before taking him to hospital.

The fire was contained in a bedroom and firefighters ventilated the rest of the flat, which was smoke logged.

It is believed the blaze started accidentally and was caused by smoking.
