Man denies Eastwood butcher's machete murder

A MAN has pleaded not guilty to murdering Eastwood butcher Parvaiz Iqbal in a town centre machete attack.

Naeem Mehmood (27), of Herringthorpe Valley Road, answered the charge at Sheffield Crown Court when he appeared there this morning.

He also pleaded not guilty to one count of attempted murder, allegedly committed during the same attack.

Mr Iqbal (40) was fatally wounded at his Grosvenor Road shop on Wednesday, October 16. A second man was severely injured and spent several days in hospital.

Police later detained a man in the Tesco car park after he was seen running through the town centre, brandishing a machete.

Mehmood is due to stand trial at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday, March 4.
