M18 link closed after trucker cut from wreckage

A DRIVER was cut free by firefighters after a crash involving two lorries on the M18 this morning.

The driver of a white DAF lorry collided with the back of a Mercedes HGV which was carrying a steel girder on the M18.

The girder went through the DAF cabin, trapping the driver inside shortly before 5.40am. He was freed by firefighters.

The driver, a 33-year-old man from North Yorkshire, was taken to Rotherham Hospital with a serious leg injury.

The incident happened on the motorway’s south link road to the M1. The closure caused considerable traffic congestion.
