Lorry stowaways released on 'immigration bail'

THREE suspected illegal immigrants caught yards from the Advertiser offices have been freed on “immigration bail” while their cases are reviewed.

Singh Pal (18), Ambrtsar Gurpreet (18) and Malkit Singh (55) were reported to police when a driver found them stowed away in his lorry three weeks ago.

A spokesman for the Home Office said: “All three were arrested on suspicion of entering the UK illegally.

“All three were interviewed, processed by a UK Border Agency officer and then put on what is in effect immigration bail.

“This means that while their cases progress, they are on report to the UK Border Agency to one of its reporting centres on a regular basis.”

Local police officers said the three men had been taken to the Merseyside area, but the Home Office spokesman could not confirm this.

The trio, believed to be from India, had been hidden inside the HGV for at least four days.

They were caught outside the Garnett Dickinson Publishing premises in Manvers on February 25.
