Litter-pick spruces up Woodlaithes estate

A GROUP of community-minded residents from Woodlaithes Village took to the streets to help keep their estate looking spick and span – and picked up more than 40 bags’ worth of rubbish.

The newly-formed group took part in the borough council’s Love Where you Live scheme which supported their efforts to clean up the area, supplying equipment such as litter pickers and bin bags, and assistance from council staff who joined in the litter picking.

More than 20 people, from 12 years old upwards, joined in the group's first litter pick on Saturday, meeting at the Marmalade Hut cafe.

The group picked litter for two hours, collecting 46 bags of rubbish plus numerous larger items including a broken vacuum cleaner.

Fly tipping was also reported to the council on the day.
