Liam (6) all set for mountain trek

Keen climber Liam More, from Thurcroft, has already hiked some of the region’s highest peaks as a tribute to Rosie Jo Tennick.

Now he will take on Whernside, which stands 2,415 feet high, to raise funds for Bluebell Wood, where Rosie passed away.

She was born with a severe form of brittle bone disease and her family stayed in one of the end of life suites at the North Anston children’s hospice.

Rosie’s mum Joanne said: “We could see Rosie whenever we wanted. Our family and friends could visit to say their goodbyes with no visiting hours in place and we had beautiful moulds of Rosie’s feet created, which helped to make some amazing memories.”

Liam’s climbing adventures have seen him beat Mam Tor, Bamford Edge and Win Hill and exceed his original £200 target.

His dad Paul Smith said: “Whernside will be a massive challenge for Liam, however with some training in the Peak District, I think he can do it.”

Bluebell Wood fundraiser Anna Gott said: “Our support services are wide ranging and bespoke to each family, including end of life treatment and care, music therapy, counselling, sibling support groups, home visits and much, much more. 

“Most importantly, we’re here for the whole family when the worst happens and they have to say goodbye.

“Liam is a great inspiration, especially at such a young age. It’s lovely that he wants to help others by setting himself this challenge. Everyone here wishes him the very best of luck.”
