'Let's spruce up Rotherham town centre'

PEOPLE are being urged to pick up a litter-picker and help Rotherham Borough Council clean up the town centre.

Council staff, businesses and volunteers will be tidying up between 10am and 12pm over the weekend of April 23 and 24.

Commissioner Julie Kenny said: “The council has been supporting a number of community clean-ups this spring and now it’s the turn of the town centre.

“As well as carrying out our own ‘superblitz’ we also want to support a community event.

“We’ll provide the litter-pickers, gloves, bin bags and refreshments — just register your interest online or turn up on the day. The more the merrier.”

The council has already earmarked areas of the town centre to tidy up ahead of this year’s Right Royal Vintage Hop on Saturday, June 11.

The popular retro event will celebrate for the Queen’s official 90th birthday weekend.

Anyone wanting to take part in the town centre clean-up should meet in All Saints Square at 10am on April 23 or 24.
