PARTY-loving Royal wedding fans  are being urged to think about arranging celebratory street parties as soon as possible.

That is the advice given by PEAT—Rotherham’s Public Event Advisory Team—which is already receiving enquiries about hosting street parties to celebrate the Royal Wedding on Friday, April 29.

PEAT includes officers from various Rotherham Borough Council departments such as highways, health and safety, and events and promotions, as well as representatives from each of the emergency services.

The team is reminding the public that they are legally obliged to notify the authority, who should received information six weeks prior to the event.

The council says that it will provide a response within ten working days.

A spokeswoman said: “Ideally, individuals or groups of residents thinking about holding a street party on any part of the highway, should give the details together with a sketch plan of the streets or roads being affected.

“If anyone is thinking about organising such an event they are advised to ring the Streetpride number on 01709 336003 for advice.

“Officers will explain the procedure and the necessary requirements. “Alternately, the application form, issued by the Department for Transport, can be accessed on the council’s website.”

Cllr Gerald Smith, the council’s Cabinet member for regeneration, said: “In the past, street parties have proved to be lots of fun for local communities, but by law the authority does need to know if anyone is thinking about organising such an event.

“Officers from the authority are here to help and to ensure that events are safe and do meet the statutory requirement and anyone thinking about organising a street party are advised to ring us for advice.”
