Legend Tommy’s marathon effort raises £1,000 for Weston Park

FUND-RAISING legend Tommy Joyce laced up his running shoes once again as he helped raise more than £1,000 for Weston Park Cancer Charity.

The veteran mile muncher, who has completed more than 100 marathons, ran 26.1 miles with every step taken in the Weekender office.

Dozens of readers dropped by to spur Tommy on and helped to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity, which funds cancer research at the Sheffield hospital.

Karen Mullins, manager at the Weekender office, said: “Myself and my colleagues Donna and Karen would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped us raise £1,005.67 for Tommy Joyce’s fund-raising for Weston Park Hospital. We’re overwhelmed with the generosity of people donating and all the shops that donated lovely raffle prizes.”

Tommy, who worked as a school caretaker, was awarded the MBE for raising more than £200,000 for charity through his runs in 2007.

Donna said winners of the raffle prizes would be contacted this week.
