KFC fights decision over Canklow restaurant

KFC has appealed against a decision by Rotherham planners to refuse permission for a new outlet near to a primary school.

Plans for a new fast-food takeaway and drive-thru on land previously occupied by the Canklow Hotel, off Centenary Way, Canklow, was rejected by the planning board in July.

Rotherham Borough Council’s planning board cited the potential effect on neighbours and the location’s close proximity of Canklow Woods Primary School, just 40 yards away, as the reasons for the decision.

But a KFC spokesman said: “We believe that KFC can be a positive addition to any community, and a new restaurant in Rotherham would create around 30 jobs.”

KFC said it expected to receive a decision on the appeal by January 2012.

Boston Castle ward member, Cllr Mahroof Hussain, said: “The site is totally and wholly inappropriate.”
