JULIE MURDER: husband denies catalogue of attacks

THE estranged husband accused of murdering of Julie Gallagher has denied a history of domestic violence against his wives and former partners.

George Gallagher dismissed a series of allegations and claimed he had never hit any of them.

Twice-married Gallagher, a former miner and steelworker, has denied:

  • Stalking his first wife outside her mother’s house.
  • Jumping on the bonnet of a moving car when he was unable to see his child.
  • Burning baby clothes in anger.
  • Dangling a partner over a bridge on a busy road.
  • Breaking into one woman’s house and appearing in her bedroom.
  • Being hit over the head with a frying pan by one woman’s sister after he grabbed her round the neck
  • Constantly beating the mother of three of his children and kicking her in the face.
  • Nailing windows and bolting doors to keep his partner in.
  • Stealing his ex-wife’s clothes in a New Year’s Eve burglary at her parents’ home and burning them.

He also denied at Sheffield Crown Court that every long-term relationship he had ever had ended in violence.

Gallagher (56), is accused of murdering 41-year-old Julie at her home in Foljambe Road, Rotherham, some time between the early hours of Thursday, March 25 and the morning of Saturday March 27, last year.

The trial continues.
