Inquest opens into Mexborough tent death

AN INQUEST has opened into the death of a 21-year-old man who was found dead in a tent.

Billy Gyte was found by a friend on Sunday  morning in a field off Wath Road, Mexborough, and investigations have now begun into how he died.

As tributes flooded onto the online remembrance site “RIP Billy Gyte—You Will Never Be Forgotten”, South Yorkshire Police reassured members of the public that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his sudden death.

An inquest was opened and adjourned at Doncaster Coroner’s Court on Wednesday.

Billy, who leaves behind four sisters and a little brother, had recently been living in a hostel and was seeking help with alcohol problems.

Billy’s mum, Vicky Stringer of Beech Crescent, Mexborough, joined family and friends on Tuesday night  to remember him at the at the spot where he was found.

Floral tributes have now been laid where the tent stood and almost 450 people have joined the Facebook website set up in Billy’s memory.

One tribute on the site read: “I cannot believe you have gone Billy. I can’t sleep, it just all seems to be unreal.

“I hope you’re OK wherever you are now. You were one in a million!.”

A police spokesman said: “Police continue to investigate but at this stage it is believed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.”
