Hunt for fugitive motorist

POLICE are appealing for information to help track down a motorist who fled the scene of an accident after his car collided with two other vehicles.

Witnesses watched as the driver of a white and black Seat Leon lost control of his vehicle on Pleasley Road, Whiston, at around 6.40pm on July 3.

The Seat was travelling towards Whiston crossroads when it swerved across the road near to the Sitwell Arms pub and collided with a black Ford Escort and a silver Ford Fiesta, tipping the former car onto its roof.

A police spokesman said: “The Leon eventually stopped after losing a wheel outside the Sitwell Arms car park.

“The driver was seen getting out the vehicle and fled the scene in the direction of Chaff Close.”

Despite extensive damage to the three cars involved, the driver of the Escort, a 32-year-old man, and the driver of the Fiesta, a 42-year-old man, escaped with minor injuries.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who saw what happened, or can identify the driver of the Seat, to come forward.
